| Another Win For EMP Stewart Components In Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Action, Beauchamp Triumphs at Mid-Ohio 08-01-2005 | Escanaba, MI
Max Angelelli and Wayne Taylor scored their third Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series victory of the season Sunday driving the No. 10 Pontiac Riley to a win in the Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park just outside Birmingham, AL.
Earlier this season, the car, which is powered by a CRD Racing Engine and cooled by an EMP Stewart Components Water Pump (pictured right), won the 24 hours of Daytona. Sunday’s win boosted Angelelli and Taylor to a 14-point lead in the Daytona Prototype driver standings. They now lead Lexus Riley co-drivers Scott Pruett and Luis Diaz by a 247-233 margin. Next up for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series will be the CompUSA 200 at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, NY, August 11-12. Highlights of the 200-mile event will be telecast on The SPEED Channel at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 12. Mike Beauchamp gave EMP Stewart Components two victories on the road courses this weekend taking first place at Mid-Ohio Race Course Sunday.
Beauchamp, who is now fourth in the Sports Car Club of America Formula Continental season standings, will return to Mid-Ohio for his next race – the SCCA Runoffs scheduled for September 25. Greg Anderson beat back a host of EMP Stewart Components challengers to win the Pro Stock portion of the 18th-Annual Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA Sunday. Anderson's Pontiac GTO Pro Stocker dispatched EMP Stewart Components racers Jeg Coughlin and Jim Yates en route to the finals where he met Kurt Johnson (below right) for the meet title.
Anderson’s win was his 35th career NHRA victory tying him with "Big Daddy" Don Garlits on the all-time wins list. The victory also boosted Anderson to the top of the 2005 NHRA Pro Stock championship standings after EMP Stewart Components racer and previous points leader Warren Johnson was ousted from the competition in First Round action Sunday by Dave Connolly. Erica Enders qualified eighth at Sonoma, her best qualifying effort to date, but lost to Richie Stevens in Round 1 Sunday. Along with Kurt and Warren Johnson, Coughlin, Yates and Larry Morgan, Enders gave EMP Stewart six cars in the “Sweet 16” final round qualifiers at Sonoma this weekend. Next up for the NHRA Pro Stockers will be the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd, MN August 11-14. Sunday’s August 14 final-round action will be televised on ESPN2 beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. The NOPI Drag Racing Association cars and stars were in Memphis, TN this weekend for an event at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Papadakis coasted through an 8.504-second, 111.81 mph run in the finals after Personett broke at the starting line. Earlier in the day, Papadakis turned in a 6.721, 210.08 effort in ousting Vince Fourcade from the competition. Meanwhile, Personett made it to the finals by defeating EMP Stewart Components charger Ara Arslanian in the semi-finals. Papadakis, Personett and Arslanian all use the EMP Stewart Components Electric Water Pump to keep their 1700-plus horsepower racers cool. In the Pro Outlaw RWD class, Paul Efantis posted a better ET and speed, but lost to rival Justin Humphreys in the division final as Humphreys had a better reaction time at the start. Humphreys’ .110-second reaction time was a blink better than the .191-second effort posted by Efantis at the ‘Christmas Tree’. That put Humphreys ahead at the finish even though Efantis’ Lucas Oil Toyota Solara turned in the better time and speed (7.203, 193.07 mph) for the quarter-mile run. Krysto Efantis and Gary White have ruled the BF Goodrich Pro Street Tire Division this season, but the win belonged to Chris Anderson Sunday as he beat White in the finals. Anderson was the man at Memphis taking out Efantis in Round 1 and then beating White in the Finals when White red lighted by a scant .002-seconds at the starting line Both White and Efantis employ the EMP Stewart Components Electric Water Pump in their high-powered Toyota race cars. The NOPI Drag Racing Association cars will now have off until August 27-28 when they invade Atco (NJ) Raceway Park. Racing gets underway Saturday, August 27, with Pro Division qualifying at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. With the NASCAR Nextel Cup division taking the weekend off, the Busch Series took center stage Saturday with the Salute To The Wallace Brothers 250 at Gateway International Raceway just outside St. Louis, MO.
Carl Edwards was third after starting in the rear of the 43-car field because of an engine change. Last week's winner David Green and Paul Menard completed the Top-5 finishers. Two other Wallace brothers - Rusty (right) and Kenny Wallace – also competed in the event. Rusty Wallace led 17 laps in his EMP Stewart Components cooled Dodge Charger before crashing on lap 137 and finishing 37th. Kenny Wallace, meanwhile, finished 24th after spinning midway through the event after contact with Nextel Cup driver Michael Waltrip. The NASCAR Busch Series will now head to Indianapolis Raceway Park and the Kroger 200 on Saturday, August 6. The event will roll off at 8:40 p.m. Eastern Time and will be televised live on TNT and broadcast by MRN Radio. NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points leader Dennis Setzer will head the chase in Power Stroke Diesel 200 on Friday, August 5 at IRP. The event will be telecast live on The SPEED Channel beginning 8:45 p.m. Eastern Time. MRN Radio will also broadcast the event live. The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series returns to action in one of the biggest events of the year – the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Sunday, August 7. The event, the first of 16-straight weeks of competition leading to the final race of the year in Homestead, FL in November, will be telecast live on NBC beginning at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The race will also be broadcast worldwide on Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) Radio Network as it happens. Short track stock car racing never takes a weekend off during the summer, so that meant EMP Stewart Components racer Tracy Gienger headed for Marshalltown (IA) Speedway Friday night.
Gienger quickly worked his way to the runner-up position and later took the lead on a mid-race restart. Gienger then gave up the top spot in a tight battle with two laps to go and despite a last lap charge, had to settle for second. “Normally, I’d be pretty happy with second, but I’m disappointed this time,” stated Gienger afterward. “I really felt like we gave it away. I never felt any pressure from behind, never heard anybody, never saw anybody. It was just a mistake on the driver's part. There’s always next week. The racecar is handling is absolutely perfect right now and the motor is making great power. And, of course, our EMP Stewart Components Stage 4 Water Pump is keeping everything cool.” Gienger will return to IMCA racing action at Marshalltown on Friday, August 5. The first race gets underway at 7 p.m. Central Time. Meanwhile, Mike Gardner (below left) set fast time in the Super Late Model division at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI Thursday night.
Later, the Michigan driver avoided several incidents that slowed the caution filled Werner Electric 50-lap main event to finished fourth. He is now fourth in the Fox Valley Racing Club Super Late Model season standings. Gardner will get another crack at high speed WIR oval on Thursday, August 4, in a regularly scheduled FRVC show. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. Central Time.
