EMP Stewart Components Ford Pro Series Water Pump Captures First NASCAR Nextel Cup Win, Sweep Top-5 At Pocono

To say EMP Stewart Components ruled the Pennsylvania 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup race last weekend would be an understatement.

The Escanaba, MI company scored a clean sweep of the Top-5 positions of the race with one of its water pumps bolted on to the engine of all five frontrunners..

Kurt Busch won the 500-mile, 4-hour plus grind in sweltering conditions. His Roush/Yates Racing Engine, featuring the new EMP Stewart Components/Yates Ford Pro Series Water Pump, never skipped a beat.

The win was the second of the year for the defending Nextel Cup champion and the 13th Busch’s career – all behind the wheel of the No. 97 Ford Taurus (below right).

Meanwhile, Sunday’s victory was the first for the EMP Stewart Components/Yates Ford Pro Series Water Pump, which was just introduced into Nextel Cup competition at Charlotte earlier this year.

Rusty Wallace, in his final season of Nextel Cup racing, was second at Pocono Sunday. An EMP Stewart Components/MERE Dodge Pro Series Water Pump cooled the Penske Jasper Racing Engine in Wallace’s No. 2 Dodge Charger.

Both the EMP Stewart Components Ford and Dodge Pro Series Water Pumps utilize a twin volute lightweight aluminum cast housing and replaceable water pump cartridge providing a balanced flow between both sides of the block.

Each pump (Dodge pictured left) optimizes horsepower and water flow while the cartridge design makes it no longer necessary to change the whole water pump. The cartridge can be changed out by removing the pulley and four bolts, a time-savings difference that could determine a championship for a NASCAR team.

Finally, all EMP Stewart Components Pro Series water pumps use an o-ring to seal the cartridge and do not use a backing plate, so there is no gasket to leak.

The combination worked perfectly at Pocono Sunday. Busch’s Roush Racing teammates - Mark Martin (below left) and Carl Edwards - each had the EMP Stewart Components/Yates Ford Pro Series Water Pumps cooling their Roush/Yates Racing Engines en route to third- and fourth-place finishes, respectively.

Ryan Newman, Wallace’s Penske South teammate, rounded out the sweep of the Top-5 positions in the Pennsylvania 500. His Penske Jasper Racing Engine never wavered in the heat thanks in large part to its EMP Stewart Components/MERE Dodge Pro Series Water Pump.

In addition to its Pro Series line of products, EMP Stewart Components offers a wide array of GM, Ford and Dodge high performance and OEM replacement water pumps and accessories.

The company is active in all forms of professional motorsports including all three top divisions of NASCAR, ARCA, IMCA and local stock car racing organizations: NHRA and NDRA/NOPI drag racing; CORR off road racing; and SCCA sports car racing.

EMP Stewart Components is housed in the EMP world corporate headquarters (right) in Escanaba, MI.
